6/30/2023 0 Comments The westing game book to read![]() ![]() ![]() The Golden Goblet by Eloise Jarvis Mcgraw: This author was also a writer with a background as an artist. What I particularly love is how she explores the theme of how people would like to see themselves, versus how they’re actually perceived. The overall tone is much sadder in a way. She was an artist, and this is a book about artists, and art. The Tattooed Potato and Other Clues (also by Ellen Raskin): I think outside of The Westing Game, this is my favorite book by Raskin. It also pays homage to Wrinkle in Time, so if you like that as well, chances are you’ll enjoy this. It’s a mystery, but not in a traditional sense, rather there’s someone sending letters and the main character is trying to figure out who it is. When You Reach Me by Rebecca Stead: This story I think is the most similar in terms of both story and characters.I’ve offered recommendations based on two categories: 1) books similar to that “flavor” and 2) books similar to the plot/story. That said, I think if you like the Westing Game you may also like her other books. Ellen Raskin has a very distinct flavor to her writing. ![]()

The names of the 10 alleged abusers, including Cimino’s, are redacted in the version of the report issued April 5 to the public because they are living and had never been publicly identified. In an email, Collins wrote “there is no evidence to support the allegations” against the people whose names were redacted in the public report. Collins threatened to sue the publication for defamation on behalf of his unnamed client if The Sun published redacted names. ![]() Collins called it “inappropriate,” “illegal” and “irresponsible” for The Sun to reveal the redacted names. “There is a legal process in place,” Collins said, referring to an ongoing court battle over redactions. ![]() Collins declined to say if Cimino is his client, only that he represents someone whose name has been redacted from the attorney general’s report. I’m glad that I read this book without reading the synopsis because the synopsis give off so much of the story. ![]() ![]() It was a supposedly normal day, and he was planning to spend it with the love of his life, but things turned out differently after he leaves the store. In this short story, we follow Phil Pendleton as his life changed from perfect to downright hell when he met a woman and his son at Walmart. What no one knows is that Phil is a prisoner, and that up until a few weeks ago and a chance encounter at a grocery store, he had never seen the child before in his life.īut you’ll also learn about me - and the worst thing I’ve ever done. Some might say that such leniency is starting to take its toll on the father, given how his health has declined. Some might say he spoils his son by allowing him to set his own bedtimes and eat candy whenever he wants. Some might say the father is a little too accommodating given the lack of discipline when the child loses his temper in public. They take walks in the park together, visit county fairs, museums, and zoos, and eat together overlooking the lake. At first glance, Phil Pendleton and his son Adam are just an ordinary father and son, no different from any other. ![]() 6/30/2023 0 Comments Mcewan on chesil beach![]() ![]() We've all kind of been there with the first time so its easy to relate and know the nervousness involved by both parties. The film's last twenty minutes are really well done and bring the picture together. Its a different type of story focused on a physical experience that usually doesn't matter to this extent in other films. The film is sharply written, although it falters a few steps of the way. She's such a talent in everything she's in and her raw emotion and hesitation in committing to a physical relationship is portrayed with a delicate confidence. ![]() Saoirse Ronan is typically fantastic in this. The film utilizes flashbacks within present time and then flashes to the future so that we can see the two leads in different times of their life and how their lives coincide at each step. It turns out having sexual intercourse has really big implications on their present relationship and what their future holds for them as well. The film is about two young people who get married and are anxious about consummating for the very first time. The film is a little different than I expected but is a satisfying experience. ![]() So Saoirse Ronan month continues and On Chesil Beach was definitely enjoyable. The film also reunites Billy Howle and Ronan, after starring in The Seagull (which came out a week ago as it is). On Chesil Beach is a film made by a first time director in Dominic Cooke. She's a supremely talented actress and I knew I had to see this film as soon as I could. I love Saoirse Ronan so much, just like everyone else in the universe should. ![]() |
